What the future holds…
The engine behind Fields of Valour: Normandy has been built with long‑term growth in mind, allowing the game to expand naturally into new theatres of war without losing the clarity, structure and tactical depth that define the core experience. Normandy serves as the foundation, a fully realised environment where the mechanics, pacing and battlefield systems have been tested, refined and proven. From this base, the game can evolve into fresh settings that introduce new challenges, new unit behaviours and new strategic considerations.
New Theatres of War
Future expansions will take the established engine and apply it to conflicts with very different terrain, technology and tactical demands. A Vietnam theatre, for example, would shift the focus from open European farmland to dense jungle, river networks and ambush‑driven engagements. Infantry would behave differently, visibility would change, and the role of artillery and armour would adapt to the environment. Other theatres, from the Eastern Front to desert warfare or Pacific island campaigns — each offer unique conditions that can be layered onto the existing mechanics without rewriting the core rules.
Evolving Gameplay
Expanding into new theatres is not simply a matter of changing scenery. Each environment introduces new tactical rhythms, new unit types and new battlefield pressures. The engine is designed to accommodate these variations by allowing terrain rules, movement restrictions, bonus abilities and objective types to be customised per theatre. This ensures that every expansion feels distinct while still remaining familiar to players who understand the fundamentals of the Normandy experience.
Consistent Framework
Although each theatre will introduce its own flavour, the underlying framework remains consistent. Turn‑based structure, hex‑grid clarity, visible bonuses and transparent combat resolution continue to anchor the experience. This consistency allows players to transition smoothly between theatres while still discovering fresh strategic layers. The expansions build on what already works, ensuring that new content feels like a natural extension rather than a departure.
Long‑Term Vision
The goal of expansion is to create a series of interconnected battlefields, each offering its own tactical identity while contributing to a broader, cohesive game world. Normandy is the first step, but the engine is capable of supporting multiple eras, environments and styles of warfare. As new theatres are introduced, players will be able to explore different historical settings, experiment with new strategies and experience how familiar mechanics behave under entirely new conditions.
