Description
Fields of Valour: Normandy is a hex‑based, turn‑focused WW2 wargame that captures the spirit of a classic tabletop boardgame. Designed for quick, readable play rather than deep simulation, it offers fast tactical engagements set around the historic battle for Caen.
Built to feel like cardboard counters brought to life on PC, every unit, hex and decision is crafted for clarity. You can read the battlefield at a glance, make meaningful choices immediately, and enjoy short, satisfying skirmishes whenever you have a few minutes to spare.
A Boardgame Approach to WW2 Tactics
The game recreates the fighting around Caen using clean turn structure, randomly generated maps and a visual style inspired by traditional wargame layouts. British infantry, artillery and armour form your core force, each benefiting from a dice‑driven bonus at the start of play:
- Infantry Dig‑In for improved defence
- Artillery Concealment via camo nets
- Tanks Smoke Deployment making them untouchable for several turns
These mechanics keep the game punchy, readable and firmly rooted in boardgame tradition.
Dynamic Battlefields
Every map is procedurally generated, ensuring each skirmish feels fresh. Minefields marked with skull‑and‑crossbones add risk and opportunity, German units may stumble into them unknowingly, occasionally turning the tide in your favour.
The German AI is designed to be assertive and purposeful. It hunts, flanks and pressures your units with surprising intelligence, forcing you to adapt quickly.
Objectives and Momentum
Two munitions objectives sit at the heart of each battle. Capture them with any British unit and your entire force receives an ATK and DEF replenishment, a vital boost when the fight reaches its final, desperate turns.
Historical unit names can be viewed at any time using the TAB key, adding flavour without slowing the pace.
Built by a Solo Developer
Fields of Valour: Normandy has been developed in GameMaker LTS as a hands‑on indie project, researching historical formations, building a bespoke hex engine, tuning movement and combat for snappy play, and shaping a visual identity that echoes classic wargame maps.
